Julie Schoonover is a medical student at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York. She has been active in merging the fields of music and medicine at her medical school, at Mount Sinai Hospital and through her research in music therapy. She leads the Mount Sinai Performance Program, which provides concerts to patients in the hospital and to residents of long-term care facilities in East Harlem. Julie is a lifelong musician, continuing her training in both violin and classical voice. She has sung and played violin with Weill Cornell’s Music and Medicine Choir and Orchestra, and frequently performs for patients in both New York Presbyterian Hospital and Mount Sinai Hospital. She volunteered with Music for Autism for several years before becoming an MC.
